“i said to my body softly,

i want to be your friend.

it sighed deeply, and replied

i have been waiting my whole life for this.”

  • The classic, Ghosh Yoga lineage, hot yoga class of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises, practiced in 35 degrees of therapeutic heat. Taught from my home, in my specialist hot yoga den. The heat is provided by Infrared heaters, which are kind to the body and planet (see FAQs to find out more). We move between active posture (asana) followed by passive stillness (savasana) throughout the sequence. This is the essence of classic hatha yoga. Accessible for all bodies, from complete beginner to seasoned yogi. The sequence is non-weight bearing, so can still be enjoyed by those with wrist and shoulder concerns. The sequence tones, strengthens, mobilises and stretches the body from head to toe, with every muscle, joint, ligaments and tendons taken care of. It also soothes the nervous system, steadies the mind, increases lung capacity and is particularly supportive for spine health. Adjustments can be offered for every posture, enabling folks to still enjoy the sequence, even when injured, recovering from surgery or living with movement restriction (always check-in with your doctor first). Class size is small, so you get lots of personalised attention to help you develop your ideal practice.

Extensive research studies now demonstrate that this yoga style improves all round physical fitness, reduces pain, stress and suffering (physical and mental), improves cardiovascular health, reduces inflammation and boosts immunity.

With regular practice you will feel fitter and happier, your life will feel less stressful and more easeful. Many many folks in many many ways, who develop a practice, experience a sense of complete transformation, from the inside out. Beyond aesthetic and athletic changes, 100% health and wellbeing is achievable for everyone through practising hot yoga on a regular basis. Life changing yoga awaits you - Let's sweat!

  • Slow Flow and Stretch is the dose of movement medicine I've curated to stretch and condition muscles, bone and the deeper connective tissues in the body. Perfect for those always on the go, who need to work that busyness out of their limbs and recharge. And/ or, as a supplementary practice for those that have enjoyed lots of higher intensity working out - runners, spinners, lifters, riders - and need to balance their efforts with targeted, deep stretch. Also great for those living with pain and or in need of rehab after illness, surgery or injury*.

We use slow flow, moving with the breath, to find our way into postures, to notice how our body is today, to integrate targeted strengthening and stretching techniques to support our bodies therapeutically and to find greater ease, steadiness and relaxation in our practice. Learning to go slow in our fast paced world is another skill in itself, so slowing the flow down can feel challenging. With practise, we discover how golden it is to give ourselves time in our busy weeks to go slow.

The class will help practitioners strengthen bone and muscle, (healthy muscle is strong and supple) and to develop and maintain good posture and ROM. Which helps reduce fatigue, DOMs, inflammation and injury to the body. Working with deep stretch also helps to regulate and calm the nervous system. With regular practise, the class can help to reduce stress and improve sleep patterns. Options offered so that everyone can find their sweet spot, for their body, posture by posture, class by class. Let's slow down and stretch!

Classes combine the best of hatha vinyasa yoga, yin yoga, meditation and mindfulness, conscious breathwork, flexibility coaching, strength training, myofascial conditioning, somatic stretching and guided relaxation. Each sequence provides a whole body mind practice, with weekly focus rotating through hamstring freedom, soulful shoulders, happy hips, happy backs and super core twist. Regular doses of movement for strength, stretch and mobility, integrated with conscious breath work and mindfulness are wonderful for body and mind. With regular practice they enable us to be healthy, pain free and happy: to live and age well!

*The class is accessible for most bodies, with progressive challenges offered for more seasoned yogis. Adjustments can be explained for movement limitations, injury and post-surgery rehab: always check with your medical provider first.

  • Yin Yoga is a passive, still form of yoga class, where postures are held for up to five minutes to provide targeted, therapeutic, stretches/ tensions and compressions - positive stress - for the musculoskeletal body. The longer holds allow our soft tissues (muscles) and our deeper, tougher connective tissues of the body (fascia, joints, ligaments and tendons) to benefit. It is a simple practice: find your form, settle in, stay a while. During class conscious breathwork, mindfulness and various self massage techniques are also explored to enhance the practice.

This is a great supplementary movement practice for yogis, athletes - runners, hikers, riders, lifters - and everyone and anyone who is usually super busy. Modern life is 'yang' energy - busy, hectic, doing. Most forms of exercise are also yang. We also need the opposite in our lives, for balance. Yin yoga is the perfect antidote. The sessions provide an opportunity to drop into stillness and quietude, to unwind, relax and restore energy.

Overtime with regular practice, yin yoga is deeply conditioning and therapeutic for the body mind - posture and musculoskeletal health improve and the nervous system stress response is calmed. Overtime, stress and inflammation in the body reduce, sleep improves, the immunity system works better, and mood is boosted. Overtime, practitioners develop a deep sense of being able to be okay with whatever life throws at them.

Classes are informed by contemporary science, traditional Chinese medicine, neuro-psychology, traditional and modern yoga philosophy, traditional and modern meditation practices.

Classes are suitable for all, from beginner to seasoned yogi practitioner, with adjustments, bolsters, blocks, straps provided, so that everyone can find their sweet spot, for their body, their practice, posture by posture, class by class.

    Let's drop into stillness!

Private classes available for 1 to 3 people with Emma in her yoga den, and/ or online by appointment. Online library content and classes available from May 2024.
